After Your Dentures
New dentures take a little practice — eating, speaking, and the way they feel will all settle over the next 2–4 weeks. The video above explains what to expect and how to look after them.
Quick reference
- Some sore spots in the first few days are common
- If a spot is painful or doesn't improve, call us — a quick adjustment takes minutes
- Start with soft foods cut into small pieces
- Chew on both sides at the same time to keep the denture stable
- Take the dentures out and brush them daily with a denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner — never regular toothpaste (too abrasive)
- Soak them overnight in water or a denture-cleaning solution
- Don't let acrylic dentures dry out
- An annual visit lets us check your gums, jaw and denture fit, whether or not you have natural teeth
